Investing in Yourself during a
Down Economy
By Shannon Wells Femenia
Has the state of the economy got you feeling tired by constantly having to tighten
up your belt? Are you tapped out emotionally? And worn down with worry about what’s to come? It’s easy to feel
this way especially when we hear so many stories about individuals and families losing their jobs and even their homes. What
can we do to help ourselves cope with times of uncertainty? The first is to remember universal law in that everything
is in its perfect place at the perfect time. Experiencing the ‘down time’ is an opportunity for growth and restructuring.
The law of cause and effect directly affect
the outcome of our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. What we invest ourselves in produces one of two
energies either positive or negative. If you invest in uplifting and positive thought and action it leads us to a more abundant
place of happiness and openness. Where as investing in negative energy sabotages our best efforts. We need not hide from negativity
but embrace it with compassion and compassion flows most easily from those who are deeply grateful. The mind is not to be
underestimated in its power of thought. Changing your thinking is an excellent start to help you to feel better all the way
around.
Worry and fear paralyze and immobilize
us. Here are some steps to remember and food for thought to help you bring yourself back to a centered and peaceful person.
· Make a list of everything you are grateful for including the gas in your car or the
bicycle you ride or your legs that carry you forward every single day. The Earth gives us everything so abundantly: air, water,
food. Be grateful for all that you already have.
· Focus on the present. The exercise of following your inhale and exhale through the
nose is really helpful to bring each moment into the now.
· Drink plenty of fresh water. Water is your body’s principal chemical component,
making up, on average, 60 percent of your body weight. It helps to flush out toxins and keep the body hydrated. Every system
in your body depends on water.
·
Eat fresh fruits and vegetables they supply minerals and vitamins to boost your mood and your immunity.
· Seek
and find Beauty in all you think, and say, and do. Grant beauty to all you know. Silence the judge and the critic within and
you will see Beauty abundantly, in yourself and others. Mother Nature never forgets this law.
· Choose uplifting conversation with friends
and family. Empower them too by asking to focus on positive talk and if they can’t share that with you find another
friend.
· Do yoga, stretch, dance in your living room, or take a vigorous walk. Physical movement is one of the most proven
sure fire ways to uplift your spirits. Keeping it consistent will bring you the most results. Doing something physical when
your mood is down is the best time to act, it will get heart rate going and the blood pumping fresh oxygen into every cell.
· Use
your smeller to sniff out scents of delight like a home cooked meal, mountain air, fresh laundered sheets, perfumes, or essential
oils. Lavender is a universal essential oil used to induce relaxation and peace.
· Keep the faith. To have faith and to be faithful
come from the same place. The heart knows with wisdom beyond rational comprehension. If we remember who we really are faith
will fill us again.
· Seek joy in anyway you can; dance, sing, laugh, or read a good book.
Ignorance of spiritual laws is bondage;
Knowledge of
spiritual laws is freedom;
Application of spiritual laws is
wisdom.
